About Us
We are an instructional and competitive nonprofit youth basketball program serving young athletes in Swansea, Massachusetts, and the surrounding area. As part of the Massachusetts youth basketball league, Swansea Youth Basketball does not hold try-outs; instead, we conduct evaluations. Athletes are then placed on teams to ensure balanced competition. Join us at Swansea Rec for a supportive and engaging basketball experience.
Metrowest
METROWEST BASKETBALL 2026/2027
Registration:
MetroWest basketball registration will open this fall. If your child is interested in trying out for a MetroWest team as part of the Massachusetts youth basketball league, please visit the league site to register when it becomes available.
Important Notes:
Participating on a MetroWest basketball team requires a significant time commitment for both games and practices. Players should only try out for a team if they are willing and able to commit to basketball through the winter season. Those who anticipate conflicts with other sports or activities should consider registering for the Swansea rec program instead.
Please note that the MetroWest organization does not enforce a playing-time requirement. Given the competitive nature of the MetroWest basketball league, equal playing time is not guaranteed, so this should be considered when deciding to play for a team.
Participation in the MetroWest League through Somerset Youth Basketball (SYBL) is open to all players residing in Swansea and surrounding towns that do not field a MetroWest team. More information is available at www.metrowestbball.com.
Please read the following tryout guidelines carefully:
1. There will be tryouts for all teams if there are enough players to form a team.
2. Only players who have registered will be allowed to try out. There are no exceptions to this rule.
3. Players unable to attend the tryout must notify the program coordinator (Scott Costa) or their coach in advance. Failure to attend a session may impact a player’s team placement. Players who do not attend the tryout and do not notify the program coordinator or coach beforehand will not be placed on a team.
4. Players unable to try out due to injury must still attend the tryout. If spots on the team remain after tryouts, the player may be evaluated by an SYBL board member, team coach, or representative and placed on a team based on that evaluation.
5. Players may try out for a team one grade level above their current grade only if there is no team being fielded at their current grade level.
6. Previous placement on a MetroWest team does not guarantee placement on a future team.
Anticipated Program Fee: $400 – uniform, if needed, will be an additional fee. Fundraising opportunities will be available.

The commitment for the Massachusetts youth basketball league is twice per week.
Freshman (K/1) division: Practices/games

Sophomore (2/3) and Junior (4/5) division:
Practices will take place once per week. All games for the sophomore and junior divisions will occur on Saturdays at Joseph Case Junior High, with times varying.
Senior (6/7/8) division:
Practices/games will happen every Tuesday and Thursday at Joseph Case Junior High School
