We are a Instructional and competitive non profit youth basketball program servicing the young athletes of Swansea Massachusetts and the local area. There are no try-outs for Swansea Youth Basketball, only evaluations. Athletes will be placed on teams accordingly in an effort to keep teams balanced.

Games and Practices:
Practices begin in October and occur once or twice a week, generally on weeknights. Games start in early December and are played on Sundays. Games run through the middle of March including playoffs. MetroWest makes every effort to keep the commute to away games to a maximum of one hour. The average commute has historically been closer to 30-45 minutes with some games played within 10-15 minutes of Swansea. Typically, there is a game the second weekend of Winter break and both weekends of February break. If necessary, we can attempt to reschedule games scheduled during vacation periods to provide the best possible attendance. Rescheduling of games is not guaranteed and should not be expected.
Important Notes:
Playing on a MetroWest team requires a significant time commitment for both games and practices. Players should only tryout for a team if they are willing and able to commit to basketball through the winter season. Players should not try out for a team if they anticipate conflicts with other sports or activities. Players who anticipate conflicts with the MetroWest schedule are strongly encouraged to register for the town recreation program only.
Please note, the MetroWest organization does not enforce a playing-time requirement. Given the competitive nature of this program, equal playing time is not guaranteed. This should be considered when making a commitment to playing for a team.
Participation in the MetroWest League through SYBL is open to all players who live in Swansea and surrounding towns that do not offer a MetroWest team. More information is available at www.metrowestbball.com.
Please read the following tryout guidelines carefully:
1. There will be tryouts for all teams if there are a sufficient number of players with which to field a team.
2. Only players who have registered will be allowed to tryout. There are no exceptions to this rule.
3. Players unable to attend the tryout must notify the program coordinator (Scott Costa) or coach in advance. Failure to attend a session may impact a player’s placement on a team. Players who fail to attend the tryout and do not notify the program coordinator or coach in advance will not be placed on a team.
4. Players who are unable to tryout due to injury must still attend the tryout. If there is a spot on the team after tryouts, the player may be evaluated by a SYBL board member/team coach/representative and placed on a team based on the evaluation.
5. Players will be allowed to tryout for a team one grade level above their current grade only if there is no team being fielded at the player’s current grade level.
6. Previous placement on a MetroWest team does not guarantee placement on a future team.
Anticipated Program Fee: $400 – uniform, if needed, will be an additional fee. Fundraising will be available.
